CPE 658/608: In Situ Stabilisation

This unit addresses the following topics:

• Terms used in insitu stabilisation. Terms used in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of insitu stabilised pavements.
• History of stabilised pavements. The development of insitu stabilisation in Australia and a description of the construction process.
• Binders. The most common cementitious and bituminous binders used in Australia. The selection of a binder for different soil conditions.
• Characterisation of materials. The test methods used to characterise materials. Material properties in the design process.
• Structural design of insitu stabilised pavements. Current methods for the analysis and determination of design thickness for insitu stabilised pavements.
• Design detailing. Detailing issues in the design of insitu stabilised pavements.
• Specifying insitu stabilised pavements. Requirements of specifications for insitu stabilised pavement contracts.
