The CPEE Annual Student Excellence Award gives recognition to students who have demonstrated excellence in their performance during the period of consideration, whilst undertaking either of the postgraduate programs, the Graduate Certificate of Pavement Technology, the Master of Pavement Technology or the Bachelor of Engineering (Professional Honours) in "Infrastructure Asset Management" and in "Road Engineering and Construction".
We are delighted to advise, following judging panel recommendations, that the winning students for the 2015 Awards are:
After eight years as the Independent Chairman of CPEE, David Anderson decided to step down at the AGM last November stating his belief that "it is in the best interests of CPEE to have a new Chairman who will no doubt bring new ideas and a new approach to leading CPEE in the future".
David as part of his final Chairman's Report took the opportunity to note:
Strategic Planning and Governance: In order to consolidate all of the change activity being undertaken, or planned to be undertaken by CPEE, the Council decided to update and extend the CPEE strategic plan. This was achieved mid-2015, following a great deal of input by a special committee appointed by the Council, by the Academic Board, by Council members themselves and by CPEE staff. We now have a robust plan that will guide all of CPEE's activities for the next 3 years.
This was acheived mid-2015, following a great deal of input including planning workshops led by Professor Nita Temmerman, a special committee appointed by the Council, by the Academic Board, by Council members themselves and CPEE staff.
Review of Masters of Pavement Technology Program: Established in the latter part of the year was a formal review of CPEE's Master of Pavement Technology Course. This was being undertaken by a formal Review Panel of internal and external experts, led by Professor Arun Kumar, Emeritus Professor, RMIT University, Melbourne and Professor in Infrastructure Engineering, QUT, Brisbane.
At the Roads Australia (RA) Conference held in Sydney on the 4-6 May 2015, and during their annual John Show Award dinner, CPEE was welcomed as one of the latest RA members. The CEO of CPEE, Ray Farrelly, responded that CPEE "is very pleased to be part of the RA organisation and is looking forward to playing a significant constructive role in enhancing the technical knowledge and skills within the RA membership in the roads, pavements and infrastructure asset management sectors."
Roads Australia is a not-for-profit, non-political key industry association whose members are drawn from all corners of the Australianroad sector, and RA champions the interests of a vital national asset - Australia's road transport system - and provides a forum for policy development, networking and communication. Further, Roads Australia seek s to ensure that information and decision-making in relation to roads and road transport is well informed and reflects an appropriate level of priorities.

Part of what makes CPEE different is our ongoing commitment to our stakeholders (that means you) and as such we strive to offer expert training to those of you who require it. For us this means not just stopping by the 'Capital Cities' but taking the training to where its requested, needed and in some cases demanded! The CPEE Short Course Program certainly did this in 2016.
This commitment extends to the offering of 'customised courses' that can be adapted to the requirements of a single employer or in conjunction with an alliance.
We suggest that you take a brief moment to check out the course available and when they will next be offered in your area. Designed to might meet your needs by the experts you turn to.

Already this year our highly regarded course content and presentations have led to a number of "Customised Courses" being agreed and the NSW Roads and Maritime Services is leading the increasing preference for more specific client focussed content. Large numbers are not necessarily needed as even 10-12 delegates can justify and secure the presenting of a "customised" course in an organisation, at a time and location of your choosing. So don't hesitate to enquire if at all interested.
Launching on the 4th June CPEE is pleased to announce our latest technical one day course, 'Road Haul Design'. With the first course to be staged in Brisbane on June 4 in conjunction with Curtin University, the course has been specifically developed as a result of demand and is ideal for those engineers and engineering technologists working for Consultants, Mining Companies, Contractors and Federal, State, or local authorities impacted by, or involved in haul road development and use.
This Brisbane course will feature Mr Roger Thompson, Professor of Mining Engineering with Curtin University's Western Australian School of Mines who is the co-author of numerous peer reviewed publications in the field of mine haul road design. Roger has also run Australian ARRB mine-site and International workshops in mine road design construction and management. He is also the contributing author of the 2011 SME Mining Engineering Handbook Chapter on Road Design.
