Davin's CPEE Study Journey

Davin Slade, Principle Geotechnical Engineer at Cardno, completed the CPEE Master of Pavement Technology in 2017. Although working full-time, he took the opportunity to enhance his workplace understanding of pavement technology by studying part-time by distance learning to complete his Masters – and, along the way, he received multiple CPEE Student Excellence Awards.

In early 2018, Davin featured in Roads and Infrastructure discussing his experiences and the benefits of studying via correspondence with CPEE. For example, he stated:

“The thing that got me specifically into the Master of Pavement Technology course was that it is a fully accredited Masters degree on par with other Australian universities.”

“The course is really flexible and distance learning means you can quite easily select the pathway you want to follow, which was really good for me. The degree is broken down into a few main areas with various units to choose from, depending on which sector is the most relevant for the individual. For me, it was pavement design.”

Education is long-term investment with benefits for the individual as well as workplace team members who profit from an expanded knowledgebase.

Davin is a Member of the CPEE Academic Board.  Davin has over 20 years’ experience in the Geotechnical Engineering field. His experience includes geotechnical modelling, retaining wall design, site investigation, slope stability assessment, residential development, commercial development, pavement assessment design, dams, wetlands, pipelines. He has worked extensively in the Melbourne metropolitan area, across Victoria and South Eastern Australia. Davin has prepared a paper on landslide susceptibility assessment and presented this paper at an international conference. He has also conducted numerous third-party reviews of slope stability assessments and acted as an expert witness at VCAT. Davin has experience across a wide range of projects.
